Boris Molotov

Boris Molotov is my favorite Pen and Paper RPG character by far. He's pragmatic, scruffy, practical, a good leader, competent, badass and has a heart of gold :) My dream as an artist has been to get something admitted into Spectrum, and well, this here is a color sketch which I intend to make into a full illustration, and then submit to Spectrum :) In it, Boris is exploring the sewers of Luna, looking for signs as to whether or not there are dark legionnaires around... Oh the tension!
Uber-rough first design-draft.

More Lifedrawing

Feel as if I'm making some slight progress maybe?

Now from Hamburg

Hey my friends, sorry for the absence, I've been busy moving to Hamburg and joining Goodgame Studios. I've been able to pick up on regular lifedrawing again, which is something I've missed immensely. Here are a few recent attempts :)

Not Quite There

I was fortunate to be able to provide a potential employer with a work-test. In the end they chose to move forward with another artist, for good reasons. I still enjoyed the test immensely, I did my best and feel happy I took the shot. Failure and success go hand in hand I suppose, but rejection always stings.

In any case, here's the result, so perhaps some of ya'll might enjoy it :D

Till next time, take care, fellow genies and minesweepers ;) !

BattleScene- WIP

Not quite finished. Stil need to add special FX, perhaps a rimlight, work on softening some edges, the shadows on the ground etc. I dunno, have I been too harsh with my transitions from light to shade, too graphic? All critique welcome! Anyways, Might be some time till I can finish it, since I managed to bang up my laptop computer screen, and I need to turn it in for repairs. Oh well, at least I've got my sketchbook :)

Also, have you heard this amazing soundtrack? Damn, this is what game-music should sound like :D

Dungeon Defenders 2 Illustrations

Howdy everybody! I was fortunate to work on a few illustrations for the upcoming Dungeon Defenders 2 by Trendy Entertainment. These are the ones I can show, as they've been announced and displayed on their website. I thoroughly enjoyed making them! I cannot claim any credit for the designs, as they had already been established by their in-house artists. I think the game looks fantastic :) Check 'em out! >> http://dungeondefenders2.com/blog/

Messin' About

Some naked chicks... Still experimenting with finding a proper balance of hard edged graphical shapes and smooth value transitions. Some days I want to render more like Ingres, and other days I want to be like Zorn, and then again I love Leyendecker. I suppose the dream is to be somewhere in between. I need more visible textured strokes.

Cheeers!

SwordBlade Tileable Backgrounds

Howdy folks! Here are a few level-designs I've been making for Swordblade. At this stage I've focused on making them tileable which unfortunately leaves them a bit barren and lacking distinctive detail. I figure I could come up with some set-pieces which I could randomly spawn along the x-axis to break up the monotony in-game. I kind of like the more painterly treatment of the ground-plane and far background, combined with a more hard-edged, shape-focused middle-ground.

Levels:
-Haunted Grounds
-Wasteland Desert
-Abyss Coast
-Dark Elf Forest

Murder Ballads Iteration 2

I'm definitely feeling better about these guys than I did last time. The acting is more subtle, and hopefully the amount of painting and sculpting is more balanced than what I usually do. I feel slightly torn whether or not to add some more leyendecker-ish highlight shapes.

Faces.

Some more face-sketches for iteration 2 of "Murder Ballads". Now I'll shade them with watercolor, and then paint 'em in photoshop. Cheerio!

Stuff

Having wrapped up a lot of freelance work, I'm once again able to focus on personal projects and practicing my craft. Here's a recent attempt, where I'm combining a colored pencil sketch, then shadows done with watercolor, and a final pass in photoshop. I really want to get better at implying form and light, combining many different aspects in each brush-stroke. I also want to get better at handling edges. I truly enjoy the more rough look of paintings. This is an iteration of the detective I did for "Murder Ballads". More to come :)

Edit: Made some small tweaks.

Swordblade Splash and Animation

Yoyoyo! In da houuuussee! Here's a splash-screen for Swordblade. Illustrations with composition and stuff are scary. Hopefully I may have something substantial to say about this project in the near future...

Also I've been taking a stab at some animation lately. I'm using a special software with which I can split up a character into parts, and then bind them to a skeleton-rig. Yay!

Until next time, take care, and stay classy ;P

Trying out some stuff. Fail, fail again, fail better :)

Sketches

Been trying out some tonal painting with watercolors. It's great fun, and I like the slightly erratic nature of them, the texture I get for free. Also need to get better at architecture and environments... Sketches!

First 2013!

Playing a pen and paper rpg called Mutant Chronicles, it's awesome! Here's my character, Boris Molotov :)

Another iteration for swordblade...
