Crocodile and Studies

Hey peeps! Here's a new character-concept, and some studies. Totally lost my steam with the simba-statuette, I'm not reeeeallly a fan of cute baby animals.. Also tried showing some steps on a recent Sorolla-study, so you might be entertained by my misconceptions! Cheerio.

Studies!

Studying how to paint, more strokes, less sculpting. Also focusing on light, experimenting with edge-hardness. The Incredibles, best 3D-animated movie ever :)

Changes

Today was my last day at work. How surreal it feels. I have never in my life been treated with so much love, by so many people, in such a short amount of time. I was moved, saying goodbye sucks. In other news, here's stuff!

Treacherous Tides

I came up with the idea of creating characters and environments for a new world inspired by "Pirates of Darkwater", you know, the animated series. Also tying to be more painterly and loose. I intend to tackle some mood/color-key paintings in this setting too. Also a couple of studies. Cheerio!

Fried Brain

My brain is fried from all this re-wiring. I have always over-rendered everything, sculpting rather than painting. Trying to change that. A couple of months back, I watched a GCMA workshop with Karla Ortiz. Her art is awesome, and she said some pretty smart things. For instance, she was talking about percentage of rendering depending on how important the area was for the total composition. Like something far away from a focal point might be rendered at 10%, whereas the eyes and other important areas would get the 100% treatment. I usually render at 100-80% all over, which is time-consuming, and kills compositions. Now I try to ZOOM OUT and render most things at 10-20%, and then I'm choosing focal-points more carefully, zooming in a bit, and being more careful..

I feel I can describe form with a modicum of accuracy, but indicating form with a few strokes, this is blowing my mind.

Also, I feel compelled to share this song performed by Stan Getz and The Bill Evans Trio. I'm totally in this mood.

Freelance again! And some studies ;)

Howdy crew! I recently took the decision to leave my studio-job and return to freelance from the beginning of June. Feels fun, exciting and surreal, though it sucks to leave friends and colleagues...

Meanwhile, here are some more studies :)

You stay classy San Diego!
