Howdy folks! Here are a few level-designs I've been making for Swordblade. At this stage I've focused on making them tileable which unfortunately leaves them a bit barren and lacking distinctive detail. I figure I could come up with some set-pieces which I could randomly spawn along the x-axis to break up the monotony in-game. I kind of like the more painterly treatment of the ground-plane and far background, combined with a more hard-edged, shape-focused middle-ground.
Levels:
-Haunted Grounds
-Wasteland Desert
-Abyss Coast
-Dark Elf Forest

Murder Ballads Iteration 2
I'm definitely feeling better about these guys than I did last time. The acting is more subtle, and hopefully the amount of painting and sculpting is more balanced than what I usually do. I feel slightly torn whether or not to add some more leyendecker-ish highlight shapes.

Faces.
Some more face-sketches for iteration 2 of "Murder Ballads". Now I'll
shade them with watercolor, and then paint 'em in photoshop. Cheerio!

Stuff
Having wrapped up a lot of freelance work, I'm once again able to focus on personal projects and practicing my craft. Here's a recent attempt, where I'm combining a colored pencil sketch, then shadows done with watercolor, and a final pass in photoshop. I really want to get better at implying form and light, combining many different aspects in each brush-stroke. I also want to get better at handling edges. I truly enjoy the more rough look of paintings. This is an iteration of the detective I did for "Murder Ballads". More to come :)
Edit: Made some small tweaks.
